“For two years before I found you, I did all my own media buying. I spent a ton of money buying useless, expensive ads in publications that weren't a good match for my company and products. I was paying full rates, and pretty much trying out every new publication when a salesman would call me, thinking maybe it would be the key to getting a lot of sales.

I was a real media-buying genius, as you can probably tell. I spent so much money in 2001 that I am embarrassed to say specifics, other than that it completely wrecked my net income and PERSONAL income for the year, even with growing gross sales.

At that point, I was considering not advertising at all anymore. And strangely, that's almost exactly what you suggested when I hired you. Next, we actually ended up getting rid of one of those two publications after we measured the results! You found me a different publication that I didn't even know about. It was not only much cheaper than the other one that we cancelled, but also actually brought in measurable sales and made a profit.

Now it is 2005, and I am advertising in more than two publications again. But my overall advertising expenses are still lower than they were in 2001. My gross sales are three times higher than in 2001, and net income is in good shape too.
